Tenerife South Airport, which is also called Tenerife South-Reina Sofia Airport, is well known by many holidaymakers from Britain and other parts of Europe. It is the gateway to Tenerife, one of Spain’s top holiday resorts in the Canary Islands. The airport is 60km (37 miles) from Santa Cruz, but relatively close to resorts on the west coast of the island.

Although the airport is small, there is a fair selection of restaurants and shops. Passengers wanting reading material, gifts, souvenirs, a snack or quick meal will find that the airport caters well to their needs.

Tenerife South Airport is served by a number of low-cost carriers, including easyJet and Ryanair, which connect the airport to many cities across Europe. More than seven million sunseekers take flights to Tenerife South each year.

Getting into Town

Bus: Bus route 111 and 343 serve the airport. The bus stops are opposite the arrivals gates of the terminal. Route 111 goes to Santa Cruz and Playa de Las Americas as well as a couple of other stops en route. It costs €6.35 to get from the airport to Santa Cruz and €1.90 to get to Playa de Las Americas. Buses depart from the airport at 30-minute intervals from 6.20am until 10.20pm, daily. There are only five night buses between 10.20pm and 5.20am. Route 343 goes to Puerto de la Cruz as well as Tenerife North Airport, Los Cristianos and Costa Adeja Station. Tickets range from €2.30 to €10 depending upon your final destination. Buses run approximately every 80 minutes from 6.20am until 9.25pm. Season tickets are also available for passengers that plan to use the buses to get round the island.

Taxis: Taxis can be found on the east side of the terminal. Taxi fares during the week from 6am to 10pm are €1.07 per kilometre. There is a minimum fare of €3.05 and a waiting charge of €3.60 per 15 minutes. Fares go up to €1.21 per kilometre with a minimum fare of €3.35 between 10pm and 6am and at weekends. There is also an added charge of €1.65 for all taxis going to or from the airport. Average weekday fares range from €21 for Playa de Las Americas, €62 to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and €90 to Puerto de la Cruz.

Car Parking

There is just one car park at Tenerife South Airport. It is located opposite the terminal. The first 30 minutes of parking is free and then it costs €0.019 for an hour and a maximum of €10.60 per day for up to four days. From day five the daily rate drops to €8.50. The drop-off zone is next to the car park.

Information Desks

The main information desk is located in the central check-in area, however there are a number of information desks throughout the airport. One is located in the airside part of the terminal and three others are scattered in the check-in and arrivals areas. Staff are multilingual and knowledgeable about various resorts across Tenerife.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: ATMs, a bank, currency exchange facilities and a post office are all available.

Luggage: Trolleys are provided, but there is no left-luggage office. The lost-and-found office is located just after the baggage claims area.

Conference and business: The Montana Roja VIP Lounge is best for conferences and business passengers using Tenerife South Airport. The lounge has newspapers, audiovisual equipment, a TV, faxing facilities, Internet access and a bar.

Other facilities: A chapel, assistance for passengers with special needs, children’s play area, a pharmacy, airport police, restaurants and shops.

Wi-Fi: Internet access is reportedly only available within the Montana Roja VIP Lounge.
