Located about 16km (10 miles) south-east of Fort Myers, Southwest Florida International Airport serves the greater Southwest Florida region, including Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Sanibel Island, Captiva Island, Bonita Springs and Naples. More than 7.5 million passengers used it in 2010 and it is one of the busiest single runway airports in the US.

Comprising one Main Terminal and concourse B-D, with free Wi-Fi throughout, modern facilities and plenty of natural sunlight, Southwest Florida International is a compact yet state-of-the-art airport. Security checks and baggage claims are quick and efficient, amenities neat and tidy, and staff courteous and helpful. Moreover, the airport features a wide array of works by local artists, making it a pleasure to wander around while you wait for your flight.

With nonstop flights throughout North America, and services to Canada and Germany, as well as a number of national hubs including Atlanta, Chicago and New York, Southwest Florida International offers much in the way of convenience for both local and international travellers.

Getting into Town

Bus: The Lee Tran bus service runs from the airport to Daniels Parkway, where passengers may connect to other Lee Tran routes. A one-way ticket costs $1.25.

Taxi: Fixed-rate taxis may be ordered at the transportation booth located between the terminal building and the short-term parking garage. The fare is calculated according to zones and is applicable to a maximum of three passengers ($10 per each additional passenger). A trip to Fort Myers costs $35 and fare to Cape Coral costs $40. Journey time to either location is approximately 15-25 minutes, depending on traffic.

Car Parking

Outdoor car parks and multi-storey parking garages are situated close to all four terminals, while low price long-term lots are located further away from the airport. Rates for outdoor and multi-storey lots are SEK 80 (£8) per hour, with maximum rates ranging between SEK 210-310 (£20-£30) per day and SEK 1470-2170 (£144-£213) per week. Long-term parking, available at the Arlanda Langtid Alfa and Arlanda Langtid Alfa Beta lots, costs SEK 50 (£5) per hour and SEK 110 (£11) for one to four days, with longer stay options and reduced rates applying thereafter. A shuttle travels between these lots and the terminals every eight to 15 minutes.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: ATMs and currency exchange. FedEx services are available at the business centre.

Luggage: There are lost-and-found facilities.

Conference and business: A business centre offering access to fax machines, laptop workstations, photocopiers, as well as FedEx services, is located on the second level of the main terminal. A small meeting room is available for hire at the airport, while the nearby Wynstar Inn & Suites features larger conference amenities.

Other facilities: Newspaper vending machines and an airport rescue and firefighting facility.

Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal.
