Airport Overview

Terminal Transfer | Getting into Town | Car Parking | Information Desks | Airport Facilities

A small provincial airport in southern India, Trivandrum International is not a place you’d want to have a long stopover. The queues are notoriously long and service can be very slow, especially at peak times. The airport has recently expanded however, with a new third terminal to handle international flights that boasts air-conditioning and Wi-Fi.

The airport serves the Kerala province and many of the popular beach resorts there. Its position on the west side of the southern tip of India also makes the airport a convenient transit point for trips to the Maldives and Sri Lanka or the Middle East, and flights to Trivandrum are available from nearly every airport in India.

Getting into Town

Train: There is no train or subway service to Trivandrum Airport. There are train connections in Thiruvananthapuram to other cities in India.

Bus: There is a city bus service from Trivandrum into Thiruvananthapuram. KSRTC Bus No. 14 runs from outside the International Terminal to the city bus terminal at East Fort, near the Padmanabhaswamy temple. The trip takes about 30 minutes and costs INR 10 (about £0.13). KSRTC buses run to other cities fairly regularly as well, but with no real timetable.

Several hotels in the Thiruvananthapuram area offer private shuttles for guests, including Hotel Pankaj, Leela Kempinski, Taj Green Cove, Hotel Uday Samudra, and Hotel Samundra.

Taxi: There is a prepaid taxi desk in the baggage-claim area with fares listed to various destinations. To get the advertised fare, collect a coupon from the desk and give it to the driver along with your money. An average fare to the centre of Thiruvananthapuram is about INR 210 (nearly £3). The prices listed are for non-air-conditioned cabs; air-conditioned taxis will cost about 50 per cent more.
