British Airways is adding another route to its service from London City Airport, with a new route to Venice set to be launched from September.

British Airways is now the biggest airline operating at London City Airport, overtaking CityJet as a result of the launch of the Venice service.

Launching in September, the Venice service will fly six times per week throughout the year. Passengers can get a ticket to the romantic city for around £85 one-way.

“We are very excited about the arrival of our 14th aircraft which will add frequency to existing business destinations and has opened up new flying possibilities to popular leisure destinations,” said Peter Simpson, Managing Director of BA CityFlyer, a subsidiary of BA which operates the London City network.

The new Venice service will depart from London City Airport at 11am on weekdays and 3pm on Sundays. But what specific places should you visit in this beautiful city?

Piazza San Marco

This is the only official ‘square’ in Venice, and is used as a meeting point by the locals and a starting point by the tourists.

The piazza’s fame means it is almost always busy, but it is worth enduring the hordes of tourists and flocks of pigeons to marvel at the beautiful architecture surrounding it.

Rialto Bridge

One of the most iconic sights in Venice, Rialto Bridge is a must-see for any visitor. The bridge is one of four crossing Venice’s Grand Canal, and is the oldest to span the canal.

Dating back hundreds of years, Rialto Bridge is steeped in history, and is the perfect example of the architecture that Venice is famous for.

Cannaregio

A former Jewish Ghetto, Cannaregio is one of the largest districts in Venice. The Cannaregio Canal, which gave the district its name, is one of the most idyllic in the city.
