British Airways has become the first airline in the UK to offer passengers using Windows 7 phones mobile boarding.

The carrier – which already offers mobile boarding to Blackberry, iPhone and Android users – has teamed up with Microsoft to extend the functionality to Windows 7 users via a BA app.

Alongside the ability to check-in, travellers can also use the free app to download boarding passes, and also to browse airport terminal maps.

The mobile app also boasts real-time alerts on flight times and – for those passengers departing on their breaks from Heathrow Terminal 5 – it will send gate alerts to let passengers know when their flight is boarding.

BA’s digital marketing innovation manager, Richard Bowden, said, “The app has been built with the customer at heart, to give them more freedom and convenience.

“Our partnership with Microsoft ensures BA is the only UK airline to provide app access across a greater range of mobile platforms and underscores our commitment to constant innovation and improvement,” he added.

The app is available to members of BA’s Executive Club – which is free of charge to join.
