The excitement of Las Vegas is one step closer for Northern Ireland residents now that MyTravel has announced it will begin direct flights from Belfast next year.
Charter airline MyTravel operates from 24 airports in the UK but this is the first connection by any carrier between Belfast International and the western United States.
When flights begin in March 2008, local travellers will be able to book 7 or 14 night trips to Sin City and avoid the hassle of connecting to a larger UK airport first.
Popularised in film culture and known throughout the world as a gambling mecca, Las Vegas is where the great and the good of America go to unwind. However, the Nevada city is becoming increasingly popular with British visitors as more airlines add it to their flight schedules.
In November last year, all-business class airline MAXjet began flying to Vegas twice weekly from Stansted, and next month low-coster Flyglobespan will begin scheduled flights from Glasgow Airport.
Belfast International’s managing director, John Doran, commented: “We are committed to offering travellers as much choice as possible and we believe Las Vegas will be a fantastic addition to the growing list of destinations available from Belfast.”
The airport, which is located around 13 miles from the centre of Belfast, is set for some other exciting new routes this year.
Flyglobespan will begin flying to Orlando and Toronto in May, Wizz Air will start operating to Warsaw in July, and easyJet is set to introduce several new European links.
