Airline manufacturer Boeing announced that last week was its best ever week for sales, with orders and commitments for 359 aeroplanes.

Boeing has also set a record for sales of its 777 aircraft in a single year, with 192 sold so far this year. This surpasses their previous record of 154 in a single year, set back in 2005.

“This has been an outstanding week for our customers and our employees. We’re pleased that in planning for their future, our customers have chosen Boeing airplanes.” said Jim Albaugh, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Aeroplanes.

Following the Dubai Air Show, Boeing has secured contracts with a range of commercial airlines, including Emirates and Lion Air.

The biggest order was from Lion Air, which has committed to buy 201 Boeing 777-300ERs and 29 Next Generation 737-900ERs. The record-breaking agreement also includes purchase rights for an extra 150 aircraft.

Emirates Airline was the second-highest buyer, ordering 50 Boeing 777-300 ERs, with options for 20 more.

Other deals included Oman Air, ordering six Boeing 787-8s; Qatar Airways, which ordered two Boeing 777 Freighters; and Singapore Air, which finalised an order for eight Boeing 777-300ERs.

Another large order came from Aviation Capital Group (AVG), which committed to buying 35 Boeing 737 MAX aeroplanes as well as finalising a firm order for 20 Next Generation 737-800s.

Mr Albaugh added: “We continue to see worldwide expansion in air traffic, and as a result, strong customer demand for our products and services.

“Our product strategy is playing out as we expected with our wide-body offerings being the aeroplanes of choice and the 737 MAX enjoying tremendous customer acceptance.”

The long awaited Boeing 787 Dreamliner made its maiden commercial voyage last month. The new aircraft is a twin-engine jet airliner and has a range of up to 8,500 miles. It is able to carry up to 290 passengers.
