New research has found that British tourists are becoming much more picky about what they want from a holiday, with clear specifications about everything from the weather to how far they expect their hotel to be from the airport.

The research from Beat The Brochure confirmed that sun, sea and sand are still top of the wishlist for holidaymakers but the list of desirables doesn’t stop there.

The study of 2,000 Britons found that a fortnight’s break in Europe is what the majority of people want most, with the perfect temperature pinpointed as 27 degrees. Survey respondents even specified that on their ideal holiday they would like to get a minimum of nine hours’ sunlight per day.

The survey also found that holidaymakers want to get to and from their hotel as quickly as possible, with accommodation a mere 22-minute drive from the airport. The tourists said that once they had reached their hotel, they’d ideally like to spend four days of their two weeks away lying in the sun and another four days on sightseeing excursions. Two days should preferably be set aside for shopping, they said.

Daniel Ox of Beat The Brochure said: “While the respondents are set on some very exact criteria for their holiday, they were happy to book very traditional European breaks, such as Ibiza holidays, which shows that Europe is still a very popular choice for British travellers.”
