Passengers flying to Budapest’s Ferihegy International Airport in the next couple of days have been warned to expect delays by its operator.
Hochtief, which is rumoured to have submitted a bid for London Gatwick Airport, has revealed that employees of Hungary’s main airport have gone on strike.
One of three terminals at the airport has been closed since 4pm yesterday (January 19), which has led the operator to inform travellers to anticipate delays, but as yet no cancellations.
Domokos Szollar, airport spokesman, explained that all aircraft will now be transferred to the airport’s other two terminals.
He said: “Despite the strike restarting on Monday, Budapest Airport is ready to resume negotiations at 10 am on Tuesday.” Among those workers on strike over pay and conditions, include the airport’s passenger security screening technicians.
Ferihegy Airport offers international connections to destinations in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North America.
