The film industry is gearing up for the biggest night of the year – the 84th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday.

When the nominees were announced a couple of weeks ago, directors, actors and all those involved in the film world have been waiting with bated breath to see who takes home the biggest prizes on the night.

The cinematography invariably sparks cinemagoers’ interest in travelling to those gorgeous destinations, so which lush vistas will inspire us this year?

Hawaii

Hawaii has had its fair share of film roles over the years, and is the setting for the critically-acclaimed George Clooney film The Descendents. Up for five awards, including Best Film and Best Actor, The Descendents tells the story of Matt King, who holds the deciding vote in a family trust that holds thousands of acres of land in Kauai.

Paris

Midnight In Paris is Woody Allen’s latest picture, and the renowned director is up for the Best Director award, as well as Best Original Screenplay. It’s about a young American couple, soon to be married, who spend a few days in the City of Light. The cast is A-List as you’d expect with even Madame Sarkozy (aka Carla Bruni) making a fleeting appearance.

Texas

Texas is the setting for Terrence Malick’s epic film The Tree Of Life. Up for three awards (Best Picture, Best Director and Best Cinematography), The Tree Of Life explores the mysteries of the universe via a middle-aged man’s childhood experiences.

New York
One of the biggest surprises when the nominees were announced was Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close – the story of a New York boy coming to terms with his father’s death in the 2001 World Trade Centre attacks. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is up for two nominations – Best Film and Best Supporting Actor for Max Von Sydow.
