The owners of Coventry Airport have lodged an appeal against a recent planning decision.

Government ministers last month ruled that the airport should not be allowed to construct a permanent terminal building to accommodate up to two million passengers a year.

The airport’s managing director Chris Orphanou remains confident that there is still hope. “Our legal team has advised us that the decision is seriously flawed in law. We will be seeking a new inquiry.”

“Hundreds of our customers, together with MPs, elected councillors, local businesses organisations and companies wanting to invest in Coventry, have urged us to make the appeal. The airport can play a major part in the economic regeneration of Coventry and provide a cost-effective use of resources for customers who would otherwise have to travel to airports as far away as Stansted,” he added.

Orphanou’s team is confident that expansion of the airport aligns with pre-existing plans to build more homes in the area. “We understand peoples’ concerns. We will never stop trying to do our utmost for our neighbours, community and to work with local partners in order to find solutions to any their concerns.”

Noise reduction and efforts to improve public transport links will be central to Coventry Airport’s expansion appeal.
