Local residents want more flights at Kent International Airport, one new study has suggested.

While residents’ groups continue to oppose expansion at most London gateways, people living near Kent Airport would reportedly welcome boosted air links.

Seven out of ten people living in the catchment area said commercial flights to the region are “very important,” while a further quarter deemed them “somewhat important”.

Overall, just 2.7 per cent of respondents felt they were “not important at all” – whereas a massive 86 per cent said they were “very likely” to fly from Kent Airport.

Convenience, reliability and short queuing times were consistently cited as the most appealing benefits of the airport.

Chief executive Matt Clarke was quoted by OnlyKent.com as saying: “This is an excellent vote of confidence in the airport and will boost our efforts to bring scheduled passenger services back to the county.”

The regional gateway currently only operates charter flights via Kent Escapes, Newmarket Holidays and DiscoveryJersey.com (website: www.discoverjersey.com).
