This year is full of notably special events across the globe. However, 2012 is set to be extra special for Disney as Disneyland Paris celebrates two decades since it was officially opened.

The theme park just outside the French capital opened in 1992, and this year it will be marking its birthday with a series of special events.

Disney loves a celebration, so it’s little wonder that Disneyland Paris is going all-out for this big milestone.

The celebrations start on 1 April and run for a whole year in true over-the-top Disney fashion. So, what can we expect from Mickey Mouse and friends?

From April onwards, the park will be operating for extended hours to make room for the main event – Disney Dreams.

Disney calls it an “immersive new night time spectacular”, with the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle at the centre of it all.

The show will feature HD projections directly on to the castle, and will also incorporate fire, lasers, fountains and pyrotechnics in a dazzling storytelling of Disney’s history.

It’s the biggest display ever put on at the park, but don’t be too concerned about missing it – the show is on every single night for the next year.

As well as the night-time display, the daily Once Upon A Dream Parade is getting a makeover to mark the birthday. The revamped procession, called Disney Magic On Parade, will be moved to the evening so expect even more colour and light.

During the day, the vibrant Disney 20th Anniversary Celebration Train will be making its way through the park, with all the favourite characters on board.

We know it’s for children, but who among us wouldn’t secretly enjoy a trip to visit Mickey Mouse? There’s certainly never been a better time to make the journey!
