Motorists wanting to drop passengers off by car at BAA airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Southampton) will be able to stop for 20 minutes without charge.

Because of the incident at Glasgow Airport at the weekend, private vehicles are not allowed to approach airport terminal buildings across the UK, but instead have to use other airport car parks to drop off or pick up passengers.

Drivers arriving at BAA airports should take a ticket as usual and will not be charged for the first 20 minutes. The situation varies at other airports; for example, at East Midlands motorists can stay in the short stay car park for 10 minutes for free.

Meanwhile, disabled passengers flying from Glasgow Airport are being urged to contact their airline before they arrive to ensure their travel arrangements have been made.

Scotland’s busiest airport is fully operational today (July 3) but motorists have to use Car Park 1 to pick up or drop off passengers, leaving them a certain distance from the terminal.

There are some agencies – including PAL and THS – based at Glasgow Airport that can help passengers with disabilities, and operator BAA is urging travellers to contact their airlines to make any necessary arrangements.

As well as this, the charity Unity Enterprise has a team of staff at the airport who can assist disabled travellers between the hours of 9am and 5pm. They can be reached on 0141 842 7568.
