With the Christmas festivities well and truly over, and the New Year’s Eve hangover still raging on for many, it’s little wonder some of us are already planning a January getaway. (Featured image is by arturclancy)

The January blues can be challenging, especially after all the fun of Christmas and New Year, so a holiday to bring in 2013 could be exactly what the doctor ordered. But with many of us suffering from a financial hangover, as well as an alcohol-induced one, finding a good deal is vital.

According to the Post Office, those looking for a January break on a budget should look no further than Egypt for value for money.

The North African country came out on top in the Post Office Travel Money report thanks to its all-inclusive packages “at three, four and five star levels”.

It was found that the average cost of a seven-night package holiday for two, along with seven evening meals, came to £846.

“Every year travel companies report a spike in bookings immediately after Christmas as thousands of people go online or to their local travel agent to book an escape abroad,” said Andrew Brown, the Post Office’s head of Travel Money.

“And after a year of washout weather, spur of the moment winter sun holiday bookings are more likely than ever. The strongest contender for post-Christmas blues bookings has to be Egypt.”

The report found that Brits can get more for their holiday money this year, with the pound buying 7 per cent more Egyptian currency than the same time last year.

Egypt was closely followed by Orlando, Florida as a good-value New Year’s destination, thanks to the pound buying 3.5 per cent more dollars than last year.

The report said: “With competitively-priced packages and some of the lowest prices for food and drink Stateside, Orlando is a good bet for the New Year.”
