Brits are being given the chance to enjoy a free Spanish fiesta on their own doorstep as the Taste of Spain 2011 events get under way this weekend, kicking off in Liverpool.

The events, run in conjunction with the Spanish Tourist Office, offer the opportunity to take it easy listening to live flamenco and Spanish rock music, or imagine you’re skimming across the sand in sunny Gran Canaria by trying out simulated surfing and kite surfing. Golf, tennis and football action are available too for energetic types.

Of course, no Spanish-themed event would be complete without the food and regional cuisines galore will be available to try, including paella, olives, nuts, oils and dried fruits from around Spain. There will also be Spanish wine-tasting to help get you into the spirit of a holiday in the sun.

Ignacia Vasallo, director of the Spanish Tourist Office in London, said, “With a full two days of entertainment on the main stage, a giant paella serving up to 1,000 people, a longest golf putt, football zone and surf simulator, the Spanish regions are offering something for all the family.”

Don’t worry if you don’t live in the North West – after Liverpool the Taste of Spain roadshow will move on to London (12-13 May and 5 June), Leeds (2-3 July) and Edinburgh (16-17 July).
