Holiday firm and airline First Choice has announced it is to stop flying out of Cardiff International Airport in just over six months’ time.

The company has said it plans to end flights from the airport by November and will be cutting back on its overall fleet next year.

First Choice currently offers a number of flights from Cardiff to destinations such as Lanzarote and Tenerife, but this move will mean around 50 staff members will be questioning their future as the company has said it will find work for them at a new base in Exeter.

A spokesperson for First Choice told the BBC website that they were always measuring the profitability of their operations and that increased customer demand from its base in Exeter would allow it to expand there and possibly offer new positions to its Cardiff based employees.

Cardiff Airport said it was aware of the First Choice decision but hoped to ensure that the number of destinations on offer from South Wales was not reduced.
