Holidaymakers wondering where to take a break this year have been given some top tips and advice, in the form of the Fodor’s 2012 Go List.

This year is just the second time the travel guide has released its Go List, outlining the top 21 travel destinations for the year ahead.

Compiled by Fodor’s editors, writers and contributors, as well as travel experts, the list takes into account upcoming events and celebrations around the world.

Emerging hotspots and value destinations are also included in the top 21 list, as well as places that have been dubbed “must-go” by the travel guide.

“Every year the Fodor’s editors and writers scout the globe to find the next best travel destination,” said Arabella Bowen, Executive Editorial Director of Fodor’s Travel.

“Our 2012 Go List highlights 21 travel destinations sure to suit every taste, trip length, and budget.”
A big year for sports in England, in the form of the Olympics, has secured London’s place in the 2012 Go List, when all eyes will be on the capital.

Other events making the list include the Northern Lights, with 2012 set to be the best time to see the spectacular light show in more than 50 years.

The 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic has made Belfast a feature of the Go List, with the city commemorating the occasion with a new exhibition.
