A number of major airlines have cancelled several flights as a result of adverse weather conditions in the UK.

The thick fog has led British Airways to cancel all mainline domestic flights to and from London Heathrow for the rest of the day. The British flag carrier has revealed that flights between Heathrow and mainland Europe have also been disrupted and that flights to and from Gatwick are facing delays.

A statement from British Airways has urged customers not to travel to Heathrow for domestic flights, adding that the problems are likely to persist for 48 hours.

Those who are set to fly on a cancelled service today have also been informed that they can rebook, claim a refund or even re-route their ticket where this is possible.

A number of other carriers including Flybe and easyJet have also announced cancellations today and passengers have been advised to make sure of their journeys before heading to the airport.

The BBC weather forecast indicates that the fog will linger until at least Sunday, which may pose further problems for air passengers in the days to come.
