The planning application for expansion work at East Midlands Airport has suffered further setbacks.

According to thisisderbyshire.co.uk, plans for the long-awaited runway extension were due to be discussed this week at a meeting of North West Leicestershire District Council’s planning committee.

However, the local portal said that the proposed 190-metre extension to the runway was not on the meeting agenda.

The council’s head of environment, Steve Bambrick, said that the process is taking a long time because it is a “contentious application”.

He told thisisderbyshire.co.uk: “We did target a particular date in March but we decided we were not in a position to recommend a decision. “By their nature [contentious applications] inevitably take longer to deal with, but not everyone takes so many years.”

An application to extend the runway at East Midlands Airport was first submitted in September 2000, the local portal said.
