Gatwick Airport has been named the UK’s Best Airport at the Travel Bulletin Awards Ceremony, which took place last week in London’s Landmark Hotel.

It was the fourth time that the airport had received the award, which is voted for by travel agents across the UK.

The prize was picked up by the airport’s Simon Edwards and Mike Hardaker.

Mr Hardaker said: “We are both really proud to accept this award again on behalf of the airport, BAA Gatwick and all the staff who work here.

“We would like to thank all those travel agents who have voted for us and all those who have worked to make us the Best UK Airport.”

Travel Bulletin is a leading trade magazine and the awards recognise the top organisations in the industry.

The Best UK Regional Airport was judged to be East Midlands, which beat off competition from Birmingham and Manchester.

East Midlands Airport also scooped the World’s Leading Eco-Friendly Airport prize at the recent World Travel Awards, because of initiatives such as aiming to be carbon neutral by 2012, installing environmentally friendly features such as ground heating pumps, and planning to install wind turbines.
