St. John’s in Newfoundland is the oldest English-founded city in North America – and a “must-see” destination in Canada.

It has never been easier to access this historic city, with a number of airlines flying there from Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

Downtown St John’s

The downtown area is the main tourist draw, with quirky multi-coloured buildings housing boutiques, restaurants and tourist shops.

With plenty of arts, history and culture set against rugged terrain and blue waters, St John’s has something for everyone. So what are the key sights you should look out for?

Signal Hill

A site of significant historical importance in St. John’s (and Newfoundland), Signal Hill has got to be your first port-of-call.

Overlooking the city, Signal Hill offers the best views of St. John’s and is the home of Cabot Tower – built in 1897 to commemorate 400 years since the discovery of Newfoundland.

Cape Spear Lighthouse

Head to Cape Spear, just a short distance from the city, and visit the lighthouse at sunset to see some truly spectacular views.
