A major annual travel survey has found that British holidaymakers are planning to do a lot more travelling in 2011 than they did in 2010.

The Travel Trends Survey, carried out by travel information site TripAdvisor, has revealed that two-thirds of the people surveyed said they were planning at least one long-haul holiday during 2011, with one in ten declaring that they would be doing more short-haul travelling than last year.

And in a boost to the travel insurance industry, the survey has also found that more than a quarter of British holidaymakers – more than 28 per cent – said they were more likely to buy holiday travel insurance this year than they were during 2010.

All the numbers point towards a slight slackening of purse strings. If people did not cancel taking a holiday altogether, then they certainly looked at cutting down on the commensurate costs, with insurance quite often being one of the first things to fall by the wayside.

People planning on increasing the frequency of their travel this year are being urged to consider taking out an annual insurance policy, which can offer optimum value to those planning multiple trips.
