Travellers departing Hong Kong International Airport will face strict security measures starting from the middle of March as new rules are brought in covering hand and cabin luggage.

The new security control guidelines for hand luggage are similar to those currently in place in the UK and Europe and will include the screening of liquids, gels and aerosols. And for cabin luggage this will mean liquids, gels and aerosols must be carried in containers with a capacity no greater than 100ml; anything larger will not be accepted.

Containers will also have to be placed in a transparent, re-sealable plastic bag of a maximum capacity not exceeding one litre and must then be presented separately from other cabin baggage for visual examination at the security point – only one bag per passenger will be allowed.

All passengers at Hong Kong International will be subject to the new cabin baggage restrictions and officials have asked travellers to be patient once the procedures are introduced in a few weeks.
