Inverness Airport has picked up a prestigious industry award for the third consecutive year, after being crowned Scotland’s best airport.

The accolade was bestowed upon the Highlands and Islands Airport by the independent travel magazine Wanderlust in its 2009 awards, which were voted for by more than 3,000 travellers.

Finishing second in the publication’s ‘Top UK Airport’ category, Inverness missed out on a second award to London City Airport.

Graeme Bell, Inverness Airport manager, described the announcement as “fantastic”, particularly as it illustrated that the airport had made a “positive impression” on passengers.

He said: “A commitment to customer service is at the heart of our business and that has been recognised by the readers of Wanderlust for the third consecutive year.”

The international airport is the main gateway to the north of Scotland and in 2007 transported 700,000 passengers to a number of destinations.
