Holidaymakers travelling to airports today (Monday, July 2) are being advised to expect delays and to travel by public transport if possible, following the incident at Glasgow Airport on Saturday (June 30).

Private cars are prevented from dropping off or picking up passengers at terminal forecourts at airports across the UK, as security forces move to ensure no copycat attacks occur.

Those wishing to drop off passengers must do so at airport car parks, and could also face long tail-backs on the roads. Airport operator BAA has advised passengers to allow for extra time to get to the airport.

At airports including Newcastle, Edinburgh, London City and Blackpool, the restricted access means that those passengers arriving by private car face a walk or bus ride to the main building.

At major airports such as Heathrow and Stansted, buses and taxis are being allowed closer access to the terminal buildings.

Both the Heathrow Express and Gatwick Express train services are operating as normal.

Airports around the UK, including Bristol, Belfast International, Belfast City, Gatwick, Cardiff, Durham Tees Valley and Southampton, have stepped up their security procedures.

Despite the disruptions, all the UK’s airports (with the exception of Glasgow, where some flights have been cancelled) are operating full flight schedules today.

At rail stations, vehicles are not being prevented from dropping off passengers, but holidaymakers travelling in this way should expect more police searches.
