A coach service that runs between York and Leeds Bradford Airport has been officially launched by the Lord Mayor of York.

The Aircoach, run by First, actually began operating at the end of February but it was not until Friday (July 20) that it was inaugurated on an official basis.

The Lord Mayor, councillor Irene Waudby, joined representatives from First, Leeds Bradford Airport and airline Jet2.com to mark the event.

Since its inception the service has carried more than 9,000 people to and from the airport, which plays host to flights by Aer Arann, Southwest, bmi, Flybe, Jet2.com, Ryanair, First Choice and others. Destinations on offer include Alicante, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Ibiza and Malta.

The Aircoach runs from York railway station to the airport every hour between 4.45am and 9pm, and every hour from 7.40am to midnight in the other direction.
