London Luton Airport is supporting National Lift Share week by encouraging passengers to sign up to a new car share scheme.

The airport is encouraging staff and passengers travelling to the airport up until 7th October 2011 to visit www.londonlutoncarshare.com and register and search for other people making the same journey to the Airport.

“Car Share has proved very popular with staff and passengers since we launched the scheme at the Airport in 2009. We are committed to developing sustainable transport options to the Airport,” says James Shearman, Environment Manager, London Luton Airport.

“I would encourage everyone simply to register their journey and do a search. No matter where you live, you’ll be surprised to find how many other people are going your way!”

National Lift Share Week promises to be a great opportunity to introduce friends, colleagues and staff to the idea of car-sharing. The more people than ever are signing up and searching for others to share with to save money and do their bit for the environment.

The Car Share scheme is one part of a larger sustainable transport programme taking place at Luton Airport, which includes improvements in public transport links for both passengers and staff.

Although the airport will face considerable competition with the launch of easyJet flights from London Southend next April, London Luton Airport is an increasingly popular airport.

Thanks to the launch of new routes and the growth of services from airlines such as Wizz Air and Monarch, Luton is becoming increasingly well linked to European destinations. In September the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, Wizz Air, begun flying a new service to Lodz, Poland from the airport.

Official figures found that passenger numbers increased by 11.3 per cent for the airport during the first six months of this year.
