The European Commission is to introduce rules to ensure airports follow the same steps regarding the carriage of liquids on flights when passengers arrive from a third country in transit to another.
At present different rules and regulations have been adopted between European countries, resulting in one major hub confiscating around two tonnes of liquids a day, according to the Airports Council International (ACI).
In a statement the ACI welcomed the European Commission’s move and highlighted that airport security staff had been required to request transiting passengers to abandon duty-free liquids purchased at airports.
The European Commission has said that liquids purchased in a third country airport will be permissible within the security area, as long as it has passed all the measures in place at the purchase point.
