Newcastle Airport will get its first scheduled long-haul flight when Emirates begins flights to Dubai in September.

A daily service will start on September 1, leaving Newcastle at 1.40pm and touching down in the emirate at 12.05am the following day. On the way back, flights will leave Dubai International Airport at 7.20am, arriving back in Newcastle at 12.10pm.

The service will use an Airbus A330 aircraft, configured with 27 business class and 251 economy class seats.

Newcastle is the tenth largest airport in the UK and offers links to many European destinations including: Malaga, Amsterdam and Dublin.

However, the Dubai connection will greatly extend local travellers’ holiday options as Emirates’ onward route network comprises more than 80 destinations around the globe.

“Newcastle can now offer its customers direct services to one of the most important destinations in the world,” said the airport’s chief executive, John Parkin.

Flyglobespan and Thomas Cook Airlines are both due to begin flights from Newcastle to Toronto in May.
