The Bank Holiday weekend is set to see airports handle thousands of passengers, but with tight security rules still in place a little planning ahead is being advised.

Gatwick Airport is expecting to see more than 500,000 people pass through its facilities over the weekend, with Friday set to be the busiest day. While the most popular destinations this August are likely to include Palma de Mallorca, Malaga and Florida.

Passengers are being reminded of the rules currently in place. Only one piece of hand baggage per passenger is allowed through security and liquids, gels and pastes in containers no larger than 100ml can be carried in hand baggage but they should fit into a re-sealable clear plastic bag measuring no more than 20cm by 20cm.

Many airports have also introduced restrictions on the pick up and drop off of passengers after the failed terrorist attack on Glasgow Airport, for example vehicles picking up passengers from outside Gatwick’s South Terminal building are now being directed to the short stay car park.

Travellers are being urged to check the parking procedures in place at their departure airport, or if at all possible to travel via public transport.
