Doncaster Sheffield Robin Hood Airport (website: www.robinhoodairport.com) has outlined its master plan for expansion over the coming years.

The regional gateway presently ferries more than one million travellers a year to more than 40 destinations – capacity which owners Peel Holdings want to increase.

Publishing a 250-page document, they unveiled ambitious plans to raise passenger numbers tenfold by 2030.

The plan, which will be subject to a three-month public consultation period, envisages extending the terminal building and boosting public transport links.

Planning permission for a new railway station has already been secured, while addition proposals are in the pipeline for a multi-storey car park and hotel development.

Peel Holdings spokesman Peter Nears commented: “Through these plans, the airport hopes to become the airport of choice for business and leisure travellers from across the region to maximise its contribution to the regeneration and renaissance of the Sheffield city region.”

He added: “This is another significant milestone for the airport and is an opportunity to recognise the significant progress that has been made by the airport in recent years.”
