The luck of the Irish is filtering through to us travellers too, with the Republic’s  government announcing that it is to make hotels across the country cheaper.

As part of new measures to assist in revitalising Ireland’s tourism industry, Irish hotels will now benefit from a reduced VAT rate for tourism-related goods, meaning that travellers will be able to snap up bargain hotel rooms.

Hoteliers are also to see taxes slashed in half for lower-paid workers, meaning that they will be more likely to offer great discounts on accommodation over the coming months.

Irish hotelier Ray Byrne, owner of boutique hotel Wineport Lodge near Dublin, said, “This is great news for tourism in Ireland and for hoteliers such as myself.

“These changes will help to reduce our overheads in a difficult economy and we will pass the savings onto our customers,” he added. Sites such as Hotel Price Scanner are great for finding the best hotel deals around.
