A visit to Walt Disney World Florida has been a firm favourite with families with young children ever since the resort opened its doors in 1971.

Now the resort it is on the hunt for a family that captures its unique spirit. From today, families in the UK can enter the search for the first ever “Walt Disney World Family”, by explaining how they and their loved ones best represent the Walt Disney World attributes of “fun, relaxation thrills and memories”.

Family entries can extend beyond immediate family members to include distant family, friends, colleagues or even neighbours.

A panel of judges, including celebrity make-up artist and family girl Jemma Kidd, will decide who will walk away with the coveted British family title.

The winning family will feature in a new marketing campaign and have their family name commemorated at the Florida resort for an entire year.

Hugh Wood, Vice President and Managing Director of Disney Destinations International said: “Our first ever hunt for a UK family that best represents what Walt Disney World is all about shows just how ‘special’ Great Britain is regarded right now.”

The search for the Walt Disney World Family coincides with new research from Walt Disney World which revealed that family holidays in 2012, the year of the Jubilee and Olympics, have acted to inspire more “togetherness” among British families generally.

It showed that families are increasingly heading on holiday with members of their extended family. A third of Brits are holidaying with five or more people while 27 per cent of UK family holidays taken this year are made up of three or more generations of the same family.

Liz Fraser, a well-known family commentator says: “2012 has been the year that GB has bonded. This multi-generational holiday trend is a win-win for everyone. It fosters a supportive and inclusive environment, meaning everyone has a better time during their ‘down time’.”
