As if you needed an excuse to eat chocolate, a new study from the University of California has discovered that eating the brown stuff could actually help you lose weight.

While chocolate contains more calories than many other foods, they are considered different to “normal” calories. This is because the ingredients in chocolate could make your metabolism work harder and act as a good sliming food.

Apparently, those who eat it more regularly have less body fat than those who don’t. This is despite the fact that they didn’t consume fewer calories overall or take more exercise.

If you are in need of a chocolate fix, here are some of the best spots in the world to indulge or lose weight.

1. Switzerland

It will probably come as no surprise that the Swiss consume more chocolate per person than any other country. If you want to get on board, Cailler-Nestle offer a trip on The Swiss Chocolate Train to their chocolate factory in Broc, Switzerland.

2. Belgium

Next stop on the chocolate trail is Belgium. Home to 12 chocolate factories, 16 chocolate museums and thousands of chocolate shops, you will be spoilt for choice. Brussels is home to two of the world’s biggest chocolate companies, proving their chocolate credentials.

3. Oaxaca, Mexico

The world’s first chocolatiers hailed from Mexico and the nation has continued to produce chocolate ever since. A number of major chocolate producers are based in Oaxaca, where chocolate is very much ingrained into the culture.
