The 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic is coming up on 15 April. The “unsinkable” RMS Titanic set sail from Southampton on a voyage to New York, but struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean resulting in the deaths of more than 1,000 people.

Now the event is being remembered in the world’s biggest Titanic museum in Belfast. The city has spent almost £100 million developing the new museum, which has been in construction for over two years.

The Belfast museum will open to the public on 31st March.

On the other side of the pond in Nova Scotia, Canada, they’re also marking the 100th anniversary.

The Nova Scotia tourism board is encouraging visitors to participate in two special events – an evening procession and a presentation.

On the Titanic Eve a walking procession will take place on the waterfront by the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

“This April, Nova Scotia will welcome people from around the world, who are fascinated by the Titanic story,” said Percy Paris, Economic and Rural Development and Tourism Minister.

“Our Maritime heritage and culture make us uniquely able to mark this historic, solemn occasion, and tell the world about our important role in the tragic story.”
