A strike called by aviation workers in Italy is affecting flights from the UK today (May 22).

Alitalia, easyJet, Ryanair and British Airways are among those airlines that have been forced to cancel services because of the industrial action, which is taking place between 10am and 6pm (local Italian time).

Affected Ryanair routes include:

Stansted to Ancona, Rome Ciampino, Bergamo, Pescara, Forli, Trieste, Treviso, Verona Brescia, Genoa, Alghero, Palermo and Pisa

East Midlands to Rimini, Pisa and Rome Ciampino

Liverpool to Ancona, Treviso and Pisa

Bournemouth to Pisa

Luton to Milan Bergamo

Check www.ryanair.com for a full list of cancellations. Ryanair has said those booked on its cancelled flights can re-book free of charge, or claim a refund.

Affected easyJet routes include:

Luton to Turin, Rimini, Cagliari

Gatwick to Venice, Olbia, Rome Ciampino, Milan Malpensa

Stansted to Naples

East Midlands to Rome Ciampino, Venice

Bristol to Milan Malpensa

Edinburgh to Milan Malpensa

EasyJet customers can also cancel or choose to re-book.

British Airways has cancelled flights from both Gatwick and Heathrow – affected routes include Gatwick to Catania and Heathrow to Rome.

All passengers with bookings to Italy today are advised to contact their airline to check their flight status.
