Vampire stories have always had lusty undertones. From ancient folklore, (Bram Stoker’s late-19th century Gothic horror Dracula), right through to modern day silver and small screen hits (Interview with a Vampire, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and True Blood), tales of the undead have typically evoked carnal desire.

Now, thanks to the massive popularity of the Twilight series, vampires are forever to be associated with romance too (fun fact: Fifty Shades of Grey originated from a piece of Twilight fan fiction).

So it’s perhaps not that surprising to hear of one enterprising travel company’s attempts to sell the idea of Transylvania as a Valentine’s destination.

Untravelled Paths are offering a four-night package departing on February 12/13 to the heart of vampire country for £390 per person.

The itinerary could be a real stoker (get it?) of romance, with one night spent in an ice hotel, an ascent of the snow-capped Faragas Mountains by cable car, a hearty brunch at the imposing Brukenthal Palace and a wander through the medieval, chocolate-box town of Sibiu.

The trip also includes Dracula’s fabled residence (better known as Castle Bran), the equally majestic Peles Castle in Sinaia, and the bohemian town of Brasov.

Included in the price are four nights B&B accommodation, all excursions, Ice Hotel dining experience for two, a bottle of bubbly in an ice bucket, all transfers, and the services of a bi-lingual guide throughout. Price excludes flights. Low cost carriers Blue Air and Wizz Air fly direct from UK to Bucharest.
