Social networking site Where Are You Now (WAYN) has announced a plan to launch a pre-paid card that will offer its subscribers “loads of benefits”, the Travelmole website reports.

WAYN, which was launched in 2003 and now has more than four million members, allows users to create profiles and join discussion forums.

With rival sites including Facebook and MySpace, the company is looking for ways to stand out from the crowd and the new pre-paid card is one way to do that.

“There is a challenge for us as a business and how we differentiate ourselves,” said the website’s co-founder and director, Jerome Touze.

“We are trying to move towards more lifestyle benefits and the card will have loads of benefits attached to it such as entry into to clubs and discounts.”

He also claimed that in the fast-changing internet world, travel firms would do well to link up with social networking sites instead of creating their own online communities.

Earlier this month WAYN signed a deal with Thomas Cook, whereby the travel firm is the sole sponsor of the website’s WAYN Club travel section. Links can be clicked to take the user straight through to deals that will specifically appeal to WAYN members.
