A massive 3.1 million holiday-related searches were tapped into Google during February this year.

According to data from Greenlight, the SEO consultancy firm, wannabe travellers were busy searching for great value breaks, with the vast majority being more concerned about getting a good price than about travelling to a specific location.

One of the most popular terms used on the search engine was “cheap holidays”, and 61 per cent of holiday searches did not name a specific destination, but rather searched for bargains.

Other well-used terms included “package holidays”, “last minute holidays” and “direct holidays.”

The February figures showed a marked increase from the level of searches carried out three months earlier, in November 2010, when just 1.2 million holiday-related searches were typed into Google.

This is being blamed on the wintry weather having well and truly taken hold in February, prompting shivering Brits to ponder a break somewhere sunny.
