The coastal city of Corpus Christi is situated in South Texas and is renowned as a prime holiday destination. It offers fine beaches and is a popular location for kite boarding, windsurfing and sailing. Some of the most visited attractions for both tourists and residents can be found in the attractive North Beach area. The World War II aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Lexington is a floating museum that gives a fascinating look at what it must have been like to live and serve aboard this ocean-going titan. There is a flight simulator and a 3D Mega Theatre on board. Nearby is the museum district. Here can be found the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, where you can discover an authentic reproduction of Christopher Columbus’ ship, the Pinta, plus the oldest shipwreck ever found in the Gulf of Mexico and a host of artefacts from world famous shipwrecks. The Art Museum of South Texas features an impressive collection of the works of local and national artists. An evening of entertainment at the Harbor Playhouse Theatre is highly recommended. Surf culture and the history of the sport are explored at the Texas Surf Museum. A delightful day out for the entire family is provided by a visit to the Texas State Aquarium, where you can watch diving shows, feeding time demonstrations and enjoy a hands on experience with stingrays and sharks. The 180 acres of the Corpus Christi Botanical Gardens and Nature Centre is a delightful place to spend a relaxing afternoon amidst an array of stunning flora.
The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority offers public transport by bus on 24 local routes, along with five peak hour express services. These are noted for being extensive, convenient and affordable. A great way to see the city and adjacent islands is from a pleasure boat. There are a number of companies offering this service. The Harbor Ferry is a regular service providing trips across the bay.
Corpus Christi International Airport (CRP) is about 5.6 miles (9 km) west of the city. There is a number of taxi companies that service the airport, operating out of a location just outside the baggage claim area. Various companies offer shuttle services between the airport and Corpus Christi. Prices for both taxis and shuttles are ostensibly set, but it is possible to negotiate a slight reduction.
