Aer Lingus flights and information

Airline Overview

Dublin-based Aer Lingus is the national airline of Ireland. It flies more than 40 routes across Europe, the UK and Ireland and serves an expanding list of long-haul destinations in the United States, as well as Dubai.

Aer Lingus Teoranta was first registered as an airline in 1936 and has been operating scheduled services ever since. The airline floated on the Dublin and London stock exchanges in late 2006 and has since announced its focus on providing a low-cost model. As a result it withdrew its membership from the oneworld alliance in April 2007.

How to find the best deals for Aer Lingus flights

The airline has frequent seat sales, and a useful Lowest Fares page on the website which gives all the lowest available fares by route. When you click on your chosen route, it then tells you the travel period to which that fare applies.  Also, there is a useful booking engine which displays prices for several days either side of selected date.

Hand luggage: one piece of hand luggage is permitted with maximum dimensions of 20 x 28 x 33cm and maximum weight of 6kg. A personal item, such an umbrella, camera or handbag, is also allowed. For all flights departing from the UK, the maximum size of hand luggage is 16 x 35 x 45cm.

Checked: Aer Lingus recently introduced a charge for all checked luggage on short-haul flights (between Ireland, the Uk and Europe). If paid online before departure the fee is €5 per bag; if paid at the airport on the day the fee is €8 per bag. No bag can exceed 20kg, or 10kg for infants.

On long-haul flights to America, Economy-Class flyers can check-in one bag free of charge, but it will cost €40 (£36 or $50) to check-in second and subsequent bags. An excess fee of €40 (£36 or $50) will be charged for any bag weighing between 23kg and 32kg (50lbs to 70lbs).

On long-haul flights to Dubai, there is a free luggage allowance of two bags per passenger with a combined weight less than 20kg.

Excess: fares vary by destination. For short-haul (UK, Ireland and Europe) routes and flights to Dubai there is a fee of €8 per kg overweight. For flights to the US a fee applies of €40 for baggage weighing between 36kg and 46kg and a fee of €80 for baggage weighing 46-84kg.
