Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, is a relatively new airline, established in 2003. It is based in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, and flies around the Middle East, to Europe, India, North America, Far East, Africa, and Oceania. It carries more than six million passengers per year.

How to find the best deals for Etihad Airways flights

Using the booking engine on the home page will return a page full of different offers from which you can select the lowest. Fare classes include Economy Special, Economy Value, Economy Smart and Economy Flexible. Placing your cursor over any fare will show you the breakdown of fares and taxes.

Check-in

Check-in opens at least three hours before the scheduled time of departure (four hours at Abu Dhabi), and closes one hour before the flight is due to take off. Check-in for Diamond First Class and Pearl Business Class flyers closes 45 minutes before take off. For passengers returning from the UAE (with the exception of US-bound flyers), there are city check-ins at the Abu Dhabi City Terminal and Dubai (on Sheikh Zayed Road). There is also check-in at Terminal T in Frankfurt Airport.

Baggage

Hand luggage: Coral Economy flyers, one piece weighing up to 7kg. Pearl Business and Diamond First passengers are allowed to bring on board two pieces with a combined weight of 12kg. Passengers travelling with an infant are permitted to bring an additional bag for the baby weighing up to 6kg. 

Checked: Coral Economy Class, 20kg; Pearl Business Class, 30kg; Diamond First Class, 40kg. Infants in all travel class have a checked baggage allowance of 10kg. 

Excess: The rate, unless otherwise specified, is 1.5 per cent of the highest normal direct adult one-way Economy-Class fare per kilogramme.

Legroom

Depends on the aircraft, but, in general, flyers enjoy a pitch of about 32 inches in Coral Economy Class and up to 90 inches in Pearl Business Class and Diamond First Class.

Passenger Change Details

Depends on the fare class. In general, passengers are only allowed to make changes or cancel bookings before confirming the reservation online. Changes after this must be made by contacting your local Etihad office.

There is a discount for children between 2 and 11 years of about 75 per cent.

Pets

Falcons are the only animals permitted in the cabin. Guide dogs are only accepted as checked baggage, but there is no fee for their carriage. Other animals are accepted only as manifested cargo. Pets are not accepted on transit flights through Abu Dhabi.

In-flight Service

All meals are Halal and do not contain pork or alcohol. Award-winning chefs create meals with a variety of influences — European, Asian and Middle Eastern. Champagne and celebration cakes (for a birthday or anniversary for example) can be ordered at the time of booking. Etihad's young fleet of aircraft has a state-of-the-art audio-video-on-demand (AVOD) system with more than 600 hours of entertainment. There is a wide selection of movies, television, audio programmes, an extensive audio library and games. The airline has the largest video screens among comparable cabins in the industry - 10.4 inch screens in Coral Economy class, 15-inch screens in Pearl Business class and 23-inch screens in Diamond First class.
