The largest of the Aegean islands, Lesbos (also spelt Lesvos) is an unspoilt and authentic holiday destination for those wishing to discover the “real” Greece. The island is popular both with travellers in search of the classic sun-and-sea beach holidays and also with botanists, who book flights to Lesbos to explore its spectacular flora and fauna. The island’s main commodities are olive oil and ouzo, the aniseed flavoured aperitif that is drunk throughout Greece. Inland, much of the countryside is covered by impressive olive groves.
