Playa de las Americas is a purpose-built resort on Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands. The resort neighbours Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje and is a big tourist draw among younger tourists who book Playa de las Americas flights in greater numbers each year.
It doesn't have a very Spanish feel, but what it does have is almost guaranteed sunshine, shimmering seas and beaches, many of them manmade. The native volcanic sand is very dark so the soft sand is imported from Africa. It also boasts all the bars and clubs - and cheap alcohol - for a happening holiday, and all the reasonably priced restaurants and fast-food joints at which to recover the next day.
Playa de las Americas has a lovely seafront promanade along which you can walk into Los Cristianos, a walk of about 30 minutes.
Away from the bars and clubs there are quality shopping centres, golf courses, good restaurants, waterparks and animal parks.

- The promenade is shaded with palm trees and filled with souvenir shops, bars and restaurants. You walk above the beaches, which are in fact, artificial although you cannot tell. (The sea and sand are real) The most exclusive beaches are Torviscus and Bahia del Duque.
- Take a ferry or a hydrofoil from the port of Los Cristianos to La Gomera and Il Hierra.
