Vilamoura flights and travel guide

Vilamoura, which means "Village of the Moors", is a purpose-built resort in the municipality of Loulé, in the Algarve. Covering 20 square km, it is one of Europe's largest beach resorts.

Vilamoura was designed to be self-sufficient. It offers everything for a perfect holiday - a range of accommodation, shops, eateries serving the tasty and healthy Portuguese cuisine, sporting and leisure facilities, a safe environment for families with small children and lively night-life. There is also that stunning 1,000-berth marina.

The beaches are perfect. Apart from Vilamoura beach, the town's own beach, there is Falésia with a backdrop of red-coloured cliffs and Olhos de Água, which is surrounded on three sides by pine-covered cliffs.

• Play golf at one of the three championship golf courses in Vilamoura. Whatever your golfing ability, you will find a course – or a view – to suit you in this huge site. The Old golf course is a par 73, the Pinhal is set in a pine forest with views of the sea, the Millennium is a new 18-hole course designed by some British architects and the newest, the Laguna, has three loops of nine holes each. Get your golfing friends together to make the most of it.
• Improve your tennis. The Roger Taylor tennis centre, completed in 1983 offers fantastic facilities so you can think about that Wimbledon dream or just enjoy playing. All the facilities of Vilamoura are within easy reach – great beaches, hotels or self-contained accommodation, making it easy to focus on the tennis.
