The entertainment capital of the state of Missouri, Branson is often compared to Las Vegas in Nevada, albeit on a more family-friendly scale. The city is unashamedly geared towards tourists and is home to a vast array of theatres and hotels, which play host to a galaxy of comedy and magic shows. Just like Las Vegas, Branson has its own ‘strip’ which comes alive with flashing neon lights as the sun goes down. This is a city that never sleeps.
Undoubtedly, the most popular attraction in this happy-go-lucky destination is Silver Dollar City. Located on the outskirts of Branson, Silver Dollar City is a family-friendly theme park with a 19th century frontier town theme. With over 30 rides and attractions, including classic roller coasters, daring thrill rides and activities for the little ones, Silver Dollar City offers a memorable day out for the entire family. Often, a single day here is not enough and many families find themselves visiting for a second time.
Away from the glamour of the theatre shows and the whirlwind pace of the theme park, Branson is home to a number of natural attractions which are sometimes overlooked. The three lakes in the area – Lake Taneycomo, Table Rock Lake and Bull Shoals Lake – offer a wealth of recreational activities including fishing and hiking. The peaceful surroundings of these scenic waterways are a welcome change of pace to the excitement of the city centre.
Aside from hiring a car, the main method of getting around the city is by taxi. There are several taxi firms which operate here, all offering metered cabs. Private shuttles are also available and charge a flat rate based on distance. The only other public transport option is the free trolley bus which connects the historic Downtown area with Branson Landing.
