Simon Dance, our UK SEO Manager, recently spent a few days in Southern Poland and is sharing his tried-and-tested tips with other travellers.

“Skiing in Poland is excellent! I was lucky enough to have four days in Zakopane (a small town just two hours from Krakow). The Tatra Mountains feature a number of excellent blue, red and black runs, and the facilities (including boot and snowboard hire) are excellent. You can also expect to pay at least a third of the price of the popular French and Italian resorts.

“Polish food is worth scoffing. A lot of the restaurants we went to didn’t have English menus, and many of the staff didn’t speak English or understand our feeble attempts at the local language, but that didn’t stop a number of us from venturing away from the safe option of pizzas or burgers after a long day on the slopes. Some of the dishes such as Polish dumplings, grilled sausages and cabbage and exceptional Bigos (or Hunters Stew) really made the trip, and I can only say, take a gamble when ordering!

“Smoked cheese is everywhere you turn! Whether you’ve just come off the slopes or you’re in a taxi on the way to the town centre, cheese stalls are everywhere. Curiosity led me to buy a sample, which is allegedly made by highlander shepherds in the Tatra Mountains. All I can say is that it’s incredibly strong!”
