Providence climate

Providence’s climate varies based on the seasonal changes, moderated by the Atlantic Ocean. Lows average in the single digits during the winter months and high temps can reach in the 90s during the summertime. Humidity is a major factor in Providence weather so if you’re planning a Providence trip during the summer months, plan accordingly. Thunderstorms are a threat during the summer months and hurricanes can reach the coastal area of Providence during the late spring, early summer times. Winters are very cold and stormy, with plenty of snow and high winds.

Getting around Providence

It’s easy to drive around Providence and renting a car is certainly an option, especially if part of your Providence trip includes beach time at nearby Newport, Rhode Island. Rent a car when you book your Providence flight and take time to explore the various Providence neighbourhoods, including the Italian district, named “Federal Hill.” There is plenty of parking available on the streets and most restaurants and tourist attractions have onsite parking or valet.

Taxis and buses are plentiful in Providence, and the Amtrak trains come through the city on a daily basis.

What is good to know if travelling to Providence?

• Don’t miss a trip to the Roger Williams Zoo. Aside from the hundreds of animals you can watch, there are plenty of human activities to partake in including paddleboating and river rides.
• Providence WaterFire is a yearly tradition that takes place during the summer months. Hundreds of bonfires light the city area and street performers, artists and musicians are everywhere for your entertainment. The WaterFire is free so take time to walk around the explore. Book reservations at a riverfront restaurant one night so you can enjoy the WaterFire scenery while you dine.
• If you plan Providence flights during the summer, head down to Newport Beach for a day or two and rest on Rhode Island’s luxury beachfront. Newport is packed with summer vacationers, but that hasn’t spoiled the beautiful beaches or the fun nightlife.
• Take a drive to Newport and tour the Newport Mansions, once occupied by famous residents including the Vanderbilt family. The mansions feature exceptional architecture, art, interior design and landscapes. Explore 250 years of American history in the 11 historic properties preserved by the Preservation Society of Newport County.  

Providence airport overview

T.F. Green Airport is located 10km (6 miles) south of Providence, in Rhode Island, USA. Established in 1931, the airport was named after Theodore Francis Green, Rhode Island’s former governor and senator. It was completely rebuilt in 1996 and in 2011 it handled almost four million passengers.

T.F. Green’s terminal comprises of two levels. Some areas are open to visitors while other areas, including some retail and dining venues, are limited to passengers only. Concessions are not plentiful, but they provide sufficient amusement for those waiting for flights.

T.F. Green Airport is a no-frills airport. Amenities are generally modern and clean, queues short and staff friendly and efficient. It’s difficult to find fault with this charming little airport.
