One in three Brits questioned for a new poll have said that they don’t see anything wrong with children being taken on holiday during term time.
With prices of both flights and accommodation skyrocketing during the school holiday periods, many parents find it a stretch to take a holiday with their families during those times.
The poll, which was carried out by car hire comparison site Carrentals.co.uk, also revealed that 12 per cent of people believed that kids should go on holiday during term time if it fitted with their parents’ work commitments.
Meanwhile, nine per cent felt that term time holidays were acceptable if the break had educational benefits. Just 17 per cent of people reported that they would never see it as acceptable to take children on holiday during term time.
Gareth Robinson, managing director of Carrentals.co.uk, said, “As all parents know, the cost of travel in the school holidays goes up significantly and for some, particularly in the current financial climate, this means no family holiday. The results of the poll show just how much sympathy there is for parents who are genuinely unable to afford to travel during this peak period.”
Mr Robinson went on to say that a “greater staggering of school holiday dates” needs to take place in order to help keep the costs of travel down and “enable more families to enjoy a holiday together.”
